Server Monitoring

Services available:

Opmanager - what the University uses to monitor and alert when some services are unresponsive.

  • Monitoring servers
  • Monitoring network switches
  • Monitoring wireless access points (AP's)
  • Monitoring virtual machines (VM's)
  • Monitoring wireless bridges

What kind of support can I receive regarding these services?

Information Services (IS) purchases an Opmanager license yearly, and the support to this service is provided by the parent company. However, members of the IS team receive alerts via text and email when the monitoring is triggered. Those same members are also responsible for putting in contact information for the equipment they are responsible for.

Although monitoring is set up, we still rely on our users and ask if they see a services not working that report it. Sometimes monitoring software can miss certain aspects of the service and the IS department like to know when a user is unhappy.

Basic troubleshooting?

  • Make sure email address is correct
  • Make sure mobile number is correct
  • Set-up when to alert administrators
  • Set-up how frequently to send the alerts
