Mist - Currently the University's WiFi network is run via Mist equipment and software. Mist is a next-generation Wireless LAN (WLAN) platform is combined with Juniper’s best-in-class wired LAN, SD-WAN, and security solutions to deliver unsurpassed end-to-end user.
At the University, we have 6 wireless networks available around the campus:
- RecNet - This network is only visible in student residential areas. It uses a PSK key allowing gaming consoles and consumer-grade electronics to have WiFi connection (examples: PlayStations, Xbox, smart devices, etc.).
- DeviceNetwork - This network should only be used for academic teaching purposes, but it is similar to RecNet. It should be used with devices that need to be connected using PSK key (examples: OWLs, Laerdal manikins, science equipment, etc.).
- Westminster - This network is available everywhere and is the most commonly used. Any devices contacting to it will require a University username/password (examples: laptops, cell phones, tablets, etc.).
- WestminsterGuest - This network is available everywhere, but the user must complete a form that will ask for a Westminster email to sponsor the visitor. The guest access will only last 16 hours, and then the form will need to be resubmitted (examples: visitors with laptops, phones, tablets, etc.).
- EduRoam - This network is available at most higher education campuses in Utah. It allows university students to visit other campuses, but use WiFi with their own University username and password.
- WestDevices - This network is used mainly for University-owned devices that need to be inside the firewall, like wireless door locks.
