How to Sync SharePoint and Teams with your File Management System

If you prefer to access your SharePoint and Teams files through your computer’s native file management system - File Explorer for PC’s and Finder for Mac’s - you can follow these instructions to sync them for easier access. If you’d like to sync an entire Team rather than just a Team channel/folder, you will need to follow the Syncing SharePoint instructions. OneDrive must be downloaded and signed in with your Westminster account.

Syncing SharePoint

  1. In your SharePoint site, click on Documents, then Sync.

  2. In the box that opens up, click Sync now.

  3. Next, click Open Microsoft OneDrive.

  4. Once it is done, you should see your SharePoint site files under the Westminster University dropdown in File Explorer (PC):

Or under OneDrive - Shared Libraries - Westminster University in Finder (Mac):

Syncing Teams

  1. In your Team, go into the channel that has the files you would like to sync.

  2. Click the Files (or Shared) tab.

  3. Click Sync. If you do not see Sync, you need to expand your Teams window or click the 3 dots at the end of the top navigation bar, seen to the right of Sync in the screenshot below.

  4. You should see confirmation that the files are being synced. You may be prompted to sign into OneDrive or allow the sync.
