FAQ: What are the First Steps for New Students?

Welcome to Westminster!

Here are a few things you will need to know to get started regarding your technology.

  • WiFi:
First things first, you will probably want to get connected to our network! For most devices, this is straightforward. You will go to your WiFi settings and select the one titled “Westminster.” If you have an Android device or Chromebook, there will be specific advanced settings that must be entered. But it should look something like the picture below:

EAP Method: PEAP
CA Certification: Don’t Validate OR Use System Certificates
Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2
If Domain is required: westminsteru.edu

  • RecNet: To connect your TV, Alexa, gaming device, etc. to the WiFi in the dorms, submit a RecNet request on the Help Desk Portal: https://westminster.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/7. In the first Description, please include:

    1. Your device type (Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Alexa, etc.).

    2. Your device’s MAC address. If you are not sure how to find your MAC address, you can Google where to find it for your specific device.

    3. Your dorm room building and number.

We will follow up on the request with the RecNet password once the request has been completed.

  • Student Resources:
The current student resources page is a hub of information you can utilize as a student here at Westminster! From here, you can find our printing service, “WebPrint.” You can find links to your email, Canvas, maintenance requests, and much more!

  • Printing:
You can print on campus from your personal device using WebPrint, our printing software, or you can print directly from our computers in the library. You can find the link to WebPrint on the current student resources page. You will log in with your Westminster username and password. From there you will be shown this page:

Select “Web Print” on the left, then “Submit a Job”. We have many public printers on campus, but the ones that you can use in the library will be:

Giovale_InfoCommons_South – black and white double sided
Giovale_InfoCommons_North – black and white double sided
Giovale_Color – color single sided

From there, you will be asked how many copies you would like and to upload your document.

  • The Help Desk:
If you find yourself wanting to ask any questions regarding any of these processes or general technology questions, you can come by the Giovale Library Help Desk where we can help explain, troubleshoot, and work through any questions you may have.
You can also call our Help Desk line at 801.832.2023 any time the library is open or submit a Help Desk request: https://westminster.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/7 .
We can help with an assortment of things such as printing, WiFi, Help Desk requests, port activations, password resets, and much more!
